Lord, Teach Us to Number Our Days: Five Day Devotional

Day 1: Embracing Our Mortality

Reading: Psalm 90:1-12

Message: Lord, Teach Us to Number Our Days

Devotional: As we reflect on Psalm 90, we're reminded of the fleeting nature of our earthly lives. Moses, the author, contrasts our brief existence with God's eternal nature. This psalm calls us to "number our days" - not in fear, but in wisdom. Consider how differently you might live if you were constantly aware of life's brevity. Would you prioritize differently? Love more deeply? Serve more earnestly? Today, ask God for the wisdom to live each day with eternal perspective, valuing what truly matters in light of eternity.

Day 2: The Gift of Salvation

Reading: John 3:16-21, Romans 6:23

Message: Lord, Teach Us to Number Our Days

Devotional: Today's readings highlight the profound gift of salvation. We're reminded that our own works can never earn us eternal life - the wages of our sin is death. But God, in His infinite love, provided a way through Jesus Christ. Reflect on the magnitude of this gift. Have you fully embraced it? Are you living in the freedom and joy it provides? Take time to thank God for His indescribable gift and consider how you can share this good news with others who desperately need it.

Day 3: Living by Faith, Not by Sight

Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:1-10

Message: Lord, Teach Us to Number Our Days

Devotional: Paul's words remind us that our current bodies and earthly circumstances are temporary. As believers, we're called to walk by faith, not by sight - trusting in God's promises even when we can't see their fulfillment. This requires a shift in perspective, focusing on the unseen eternal realities rather than temporary trials. Today, identify an area of your life where you're struggling to trust God. Commit it to Him in prayer, asking for the faith to see beyond your current circumstances to His eternal purposes.

Day 4: The Reality of Judgment Reading: Revelation 20:11-15, 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 Message: Lord, Teach Us to Number Our Days

Devotional: Today's reading presents a sobering picture of final judgment. While this can be a difficult topic, it underscores the importance of our choices in this life and the urgency of sharing the gospel. The reality of future judgment for believers isn't meant to instill fear, but to motivate holy living. We will give an account for how we've used the gifts, time, and resources God has given us. Today, examine your life as if you were preparing to stand before Christ. Are there areas where you need to realign your actions with God's will? Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any "wood, hay, or stubble" in your life that needs to be replaced with works of eternal value. Commit to building your life on the foundation of Christ with materials that will endure.

Day 5: Assurance of Salvation

Reading: Romans 8:31-39, John 10:27-30

Message: Lord, Teach Us to Number Our Days

Devotional: While we're called to live wisely and accountably, our ultimate hope rests not in our own efforts, but in God's unfailing love and Christ's finished work. These passages assure us that nothing can separate us from God's love or snatch us from His hand. Reflect on times when you've doubted God's love or your salvation. How do these verses speak to those doubts? Thank God for the security we have in Christ. Ask Him to help you live boldly and confidently from this place of assurance, sharing His love with others who need this hope.
