Day 1: God's Concern for People and Places
Reading: Genesis 1:26-28, Genesis 2:7-17
"Destination Impossible" by Pastor Dexter B. Upshaw Jr.
Devotional: As we begin this journey, let's reflect on God's deep concern for both people and places. From the very beginning, God created humanity with purpose and placed them in a specific location - the Garden of Eden. This shows us that God cares not only about who we are but also where we are. Today, consider how God has placed you in your current location and relationships. How might He be using your specific circumstances to shape you and impact others? Pray for wisdom to see your surroundings through God's eyes and to understand your purpose in the place He has put you.
Day 2: The Promise of a New Land
Reading: Genesis 12:1-3, Hebrews 11:8-10
"Destination Impossible" by Pastor Dexter B. Upshaw Jr.
Devotional: God called Abram to leave everything familiar and journey to an unknown land. This required tremendous faith and trust in God's promises. Similarly, God calls us to step out in faith, sometimes leaving behind the comfortable and familiar. The promised land for Abram was both a physical place and a spiritual reality. For us, our ultimate "promised land" is eternity with God. As you go through your day, reflect on areas where God might be calling you to step out in faith. What "unknown territories" in your spiritual life is He inviting you to explore? Remember, like Abram, our journey of faith is ultimately leading us to our eternal home with God.
Day 3: Ambassadors of Heaven
Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21, Philippians 3:20-21
"Destination Impossible" by Pastor Dexter B. Upshaw Jr.
Devotional: As believers, we are called to be ambassadors for Christ, representing the Kingdom of Heaven here on earth. Just as an embassy promotes its home country's culture and values in a foreign land, we are to embody and share the values of God's Kingdom in this world. Today, consider how you can be an "ambassador" for the "embassy of heaven" in your daily life. How can you reflect God's love, grace, and truth to those around you? Pray for opportunities to share the hope of the Gospel and to invite others to become citizens of God's Kingdom through faith in Christ.
Day 4: Occupying Until Christ Returns
Reading: Luke 19:11-27, Colossians 3:1-4
"Destination Impossible" by Pastor Dexter B. Upshaw Jr.
Devotional: While we eagerly await our heavenly home, we are called to "occupy" - to be actively engaged in God's work - until Christ returns. This parable teaches us about stewardship and faithfulness in using what God has entrusted to us. Reflect on the gifts, talents, and resources God has given you. How are you using them to further His Kingdom? Are there areas where you've become complacent or disengaged? Ask God to renew your passion for His work and to show you how you can be more intentional in serving Him while we await His return.
Day 5: Our Eternal Destination
Reading: Revelation 21:1-4, 2 Corinthians 5:1-5
"Destination Impossible" by Pastor Dexter B. Upshaw Jr.
Devotional: As we conclude this week's devotional, let's fix our eyes on our ultimate destination - the new heaven and new earth. This promise gives us hope and perspective in the midst of life's challenges. We're reminded that our current struggles are temporary, and a glorious future awaits us in God's presence. Today, meditate on the beauty of this promise. How does the hope of eternity with God impact how you view your current circumstances? Ask God to help you live with an eternal perspective, allowing the promise of your heavenly home to influence your choices, attitudes, and interactions today.
