Bishop Derek L. Calhoun served as deacon, trustee and associate pastor for seven years at Faith Bible Church of Washington, DC under the ministerial tutelage of the late Bishop Lewis T. Tait, Jr.  Bishop Calhoun also served as Assistant to the late Pastor Joseph A. Gilmore, Sr., at the Mount Ephraim Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, MD for three years and as Senior Pastor of Grace Baptist Church of Norwalk, CT for four years.  He is the founder and Senior Pastor of New Vision International Ministries of Bridgeport, CT since 1999.

Bishop Calhoun earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Howard University with a minor in Economics.  He also earned a Masters Degree in Divinity from Howard University’s School of Divinity where he graduated among the top three students in his class.

Bishop Calhoun has been ordained in both the Baptist Church and Covenant Fellowship International, where he serves as an Elder on the three-member Presbytery Council under the apostolic authority of Bishop Vaughn M. McLaughlin, presiding prelate. Bishop Calhoun has been actively engaged in ministry for over twenty-three (23) years, preaching, and teaching both nationally and internationally.

While living and serving in ministry within the Washington, DC area, Bishop Calhoun also served as an educational consultant and an English Instructor in both Washington, DC and Prince George County (Maryland) public school systems.  In addition he also held a position as Adjunct Professor at Prince George Community College in Maryland.

Currently, Bishop Calhoun is the principal of his own business-consulting firm Kalli Corporation, LLC. Bishop Calhoun is a businessman and advises and incubates several businesses on the New Vision campus and Greater Fairfield County.  Bishop Calhoun is Chairman of the Board of Directors for the New Vision International Development Corporation.  Bishop Calhoun is currently working on his first book scheduled to be released in the spring of 2010.

Bishop Calhoun and his wife, Lady Sharron Calhoun, are a dynamic teaching tandem.  They have ministered in the areas of marriage and relationships for over 20 years.  They have spoken on campuses from Howard University to Yale University and particularly have a passion for Pastors and their wives and married couples.  They are not limited by church walls and their ministry experiences include campus, street, homeless and youth ministry work.  Bishop Calhoun and Lady Sharron have been married for over 20 years and have four daughters.

Above all, Bishop Calhoun loves God and is completely committed to doing God’s will in his personal life while attending to the spiritual development of New Vision International Ministries.  He is assisted by his wife, and a dedicated team of five elders, staff and servant leaders.  His elders and ministry team help him to provide Godly leadership with the spirit of excellence. Thus, New Vision International Ministries is committed to the objectives of staying focused on God and God’s vision for a glocal 21st century church.
