Service for Peace, Stamford, CT – Saturday, January 14, 8:30 am -3 pm (see flyer for details)
Join more than 500 volunteers in Stamford who are participating in a variety of community service projects. The theme of the day is “promoting peace.” This is a free event, and breakfast, lunch and transportation to all community service projects will be provided. Participants will be serving lunch at shelters and soup kitchens, sprucing up local community centers and schools, spending time with seniors, and more. To participate, arrive at the Trailblazers Academy at 83 Lockwood Avenue in Stamford on Saturday, January 14 at 8:30 am to register and have breakfast. A ceremony will be held from 9 to 12. Lunch starts at 12. Service project work will be from 1 to 3. The day ends with an MLK birthday celebration and reflections at 3. Day of Service, Bridgeport, CT – Monday, January 16, 10 am -12:30 pm
The University of Bridgeport is sponsoring a Day of Service. In addition to celebrating the life of Dr. King and reflecting on the importance of service to the community, hundreds of Bridgeport residents will take part in community service activities. Groups of 6 to 50 volunteers, including The Youth Health Service Corps that New Vision’s youth participate in, will be available from 10:00 am to12:30 pm to clean, paint, plant, mentor, do recreational activities, organize, build or any other needs organizations might have.
